The rise in the Covid-19 Delta variant has brought to my attention the old saying, “the little things are what matters.” Recently our school held a Mom’s Night Out Fundraiser at Evereve, a women’s clothing store. It was a reason to go out, wear a mask, and do some shopping and socializing in a safe way. I found two items and as I headed to check-out, I spotted this fabulous sweater. It was super soft and warm, and the color was amazing. The sweater’s fuchsia color made me smile, I bought it, and I felt Star Stunning in it. Is there a particular color that makes you smile?
The day after I bought it, I was set to wear it to work. I have been going into the office 2-3 days a week since September 1 and it was my day to go in. I had finished my work-out earlier in the morning, I was dressed in my new sweater, and I was ready for a Star Stunning day. I headed into the kitchen and made one of my favorite protein shakes. I poured the shake in a to-go glass and attempted to screw on the lid, but it wasn’t getting tight. I got impatient with it, left it and cleaned up the blender. On my way to leave the kitchen I grabbed the shake by the lid, but I forgot it was not secure. As I picked it up, the glass fell from the lid and the shake went all over my new sweater, the counter, and the floor.
After frantically cleaning up the kitchen, I immediately headed to the laundry room and hand washed my Star Stunning sweater. With a little scrubbing it was good as new, and I hung it to dry. Now what was I going to wear? I was feeling so good, and I didn’t want to lose that feeling and I truly believe it is the sweater’s color that makes me feel so stunning. So, I reached into my closet and thankfully spotted another great find. This time a fuchsia blazer purchased over two years ago hanging in a dry-cleaning bag from 2019 just waiting for me to put on!
In the blazer, just like the sweater I felt great, and the accident of the morning was out of my mind. It may not have been exactly the look I was going for when the day started but given the circumstances it was just what I needed, and I embraced the change. What can you do to not let an accident bring you down? Can you embrace change and make the best of it?
This brings me to today’s Star Stunning realizations:
- Stay in touch with your emotions. Recognize how the clothes you wear make you feel a certain way. Is it the color? Is it the texture of the fabric? Is it the style? Knowing this will help you make quick decisions that matter to you, and you will look and feel your best more times than not.
- Don’t be married to outcomes. Don’t be discouraged if your morning doesn’t turn out exactly how you thought it would, it will be ok, and it might even be better.
- Finish the job you are doing. Try to focus and finish the task at hand. An example is to make sure to screw the lid on tight before you walk away and start another task. Your mom/careerwoman-mind doesn’t always remember where you left things.
- Breath through impatience. When a small task turns out to be not so simple, try to slow down, breath and complete the task. The breathing may keep the other tasks such as cleaning the blender or getting to work out of the foreground and the difficult task may just get simpler. Is this something you could work into your morning routine?
