I have been pre-diabetic on and off for several years. I took what I believed were responsible steps: reducing calories, lowering carbohydrates, and adding regular exercise. I assumed I was following the 80/20 rule well enough to make progress.
That assumption changed when I began using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM).
For the first time, I had a clear feedback loop. Some of my go-to foods—things I genuinely believed were healthy—were actually creating glucose spikes. For me, committing to a consistent sleep schedule became a turning point.
Choosing rest did not look impressive from the outside. No one at work knew. No one applauded it. Yet the impact was immediate—more energy, more patience, more clarity. The quiet decision to go to bed earlier changed how I showed up in every part of my life.

I did not set out to relocate four times, but life formed its chapters anyway: Des Moines, Seattle, Los Angeles, Minneapolis. Each move arrived with disruption. Each required a renewed commitment to myself.
Every New City Required a New Version of Me

Married people. Single people. People whose lives looked nothing like mine. Not convenience, but connection.

Over time, what once felt foreign became formative.
Each chapter looked different, but the underlying commitment remained the same: show up before you feel comfortable. Show up before you feel certain. Show up before you feel known.
With every move, I rebuilt routines. I rebuilt community. I rebuilt my sense of footing. And each time, I discovered something steady underneath the uncertainty.
